The important purposes of this research were to study Africa in the global context the development of African economy, society and population up to 2050 and the likely position of Africa in 2050. The principal findings are as follows: 1) Africa is in a new multipolar world which is experiencing a shift in power from the United States’ predominance to an arena in which countries in Asia and Africa, such as China, India, and other BRICS countries, play a more significant role. This transition will continue taking a new shape across the first half of the 21^st century. 2) Africa’s development will be more open to the world by using regional economic integration and global market integration, or neo-liberalism. By 2050, Africa’s population is projected to reach its peak at 2 billion. Africa’s middle class is not only crucial for economic growth but also essential for democracy and good governance. Therefore, Africa will develop toward maturity and become a more crucial player on the world stage by 2050.

การวิจัยเรื่อง แอฟริกา ค.ศ. 2050 มีวัตถุประสงค์สำคัญ 3 ประการคือ ศึกษา แอฟริกาในบริบทโลกปัจจุบัน พัฒนาการด้านเศรษฐกิจ สังคม ประชากร แอฟริกันสู่ ค.ศ. 2050 และสถานะแอฟริกาใน ค.ศ. 2050 ผลการศึกษาพบว่า 1) แอฟริกาอยู่ภายใต้การเมืองโลกในระบบหลายขั้วใหม่ จากการเปลี่ยนแปลงศูนย์อำนาจโลกจากสหรัฐอเมริกามาเป็นประเทศในเอเชียและแอฟริกา เช่น จีน อินเดีย รวมทั้งกลุ่ม BRICS ซึ่งจะมีบทบาทสำคัญขึ้นในเวทีโลกและจะเห็นชัดเจนในครึ่งแรกของศตวรรษที่ 21 2) แอฟริกาจะใช้แนวทางพัฒนาประเทศ โดยการเปิดเสรีอย่างกว้างขวาง
